Intellectual Property : where did it all begin

It often happens that some ideas and practices come into forefront “suddenly” and capture public attention instantly. For example the idea of management i.e planning, organizing work in a systematic manner was in practice as evidenced in the construction of historically famous building such as pyramids or Taj Mahal. However, it caught serious attention of practitioners, academicians only in the aftermath of industrial revolution as its necessity was felt on larger scale. Something similar is true with intellectual property. The history of the term Intellectual property and the origin and development of thought associated with it dates backs to early days of human existence. However, the term Intellectual property was put into global attention and legal framework in 1967 with the establishment of World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). According to an article on wikpedia, the first ever reference of the thought appears in the writing of French author Benjamin Constant published in 1818. In the legal context, the term Intellectual property appeared in a USA court ruling in 1845. The origin of concept is found in ancient Jewish law
